“The Shadow Riders” has all the grit, matter-of-fact speech, astonishing landscapes and action of a mammoth Louis L’Amour book. Tom Selleck, Sam Elliot and Jeff Osterhage also starred in “The Sacketts” in 1979, and do impartial as fair a job in this movie as that one.
The fragment that will surprise you is how strong the female lead role is. Katharine Ross does an suited job as the fiesty Kate Connery, the fancy interest of Dal Travern (Sam Elliot) . She had as great a character and as great shroud time as many of today’s heriones — a highly modern circumstance in the early 80s and certainly current for the genre.
“The Shadow Riders” has a ample mix of romance, action, humor and obliging used fashioned Western elements. This mix makes the film lively to a mighty wider audience than honest Western fans or Louis L’Amour fans — although they will advance away thrilled.
This movie is based on the book by Louis L’Amour by the same name. It doesn’t follow the book too closely (which usually bothers me, but they did this very well) but level-headed came up with a very involving movie that hangs well together. The chronicle is about 3 brothers and two sisters. Two of the brothers fought on opposite sides of the Civil War, but meet up impartial as the war has ended when renegades are about to hang one of them. They go home to study that more renegades have stolen the third brother and both petite sisters. This movie has some enormous actors in it and it’s objective a pleasant all-around entertainment movie.

The sixth season of this generous series in my understanding is the best overall, well rounded season of the entire seven year rush. It is loaded with exceptional, plan provoking and heart warming episodes that resound of exceptional script writing and obliging performances by the necessary and guest actors. From the season opener to the closer, few episodes drop out of the “respectable” category! This season is another trustworthy example of Gene Roddenberry’s vision.
A brief synopsis of the “stand out” episodes of this particularly substantial season:
Relics – This grand episode is one of the most treasured episodes of the season as Scotty makes an appearance in the twenty fourth century and is befriended by the crew of the fresh Enterprise.

True Q – This is another tremendous Q episode where John de Lancie makes his first of two sixth season appearances as Q. Amanda Rogers, a young honor student is aboard the Enterprise and she is beginning to reveal some “Q” powers.
Rascals – This is another one of the exceptional episodes of the season where a transporter accident turns Picard, Guinan, Ro Laren and Keiko O’Brien into children. Not longer after this “accident,” Ferengi kill up in control of the ship. Picard and the other “rascals” must rep a device to score control of the Enterprise.
A Fistful of Datas – Star Trail meets the frail west in a hilarious and quite memorable episode. Alexander convinces his father to join him on the holodeck in an “weak” western. Unfortunately the holodeck safeties become inferior when Data performs an experiment that goes awry and he becomes integrated with the holodeck, putting Worf, Troi and Alexander in pain.

Chain of Enlighten, Parts I & II – In this exceptional two piece episode Starfleet Boom has a novel mission for Picard and piece of that belief is replacing him with the dismal Captain Edward Jellico in jabber of the Enterprise. While Jellico is dealing with the Cardassians, Picard’s team sets off on their mission but is captured. We meet Gul Madred who is played superbly by David Warner. In some of the most heart wrenching scenes of Scramble ever, we’re forced to eye as Gul Madred tortures Picard.
Ship in a Bottle – In this particularly large episode, the producers bring closure to the second season episode that introduced Professor James Moriarty and his being save in computer memory.
Face of the Enemy – This episode is probably one of the best Troi episodes of the entire seven year hurry. She awakens and looks in the mirror only to secure she looks like a Romulan. Troi finds that she must act out the role of a Tal Shiar agent and wait on the Romulan “unificationists” in order to hopefully bag away from the Romulans.
Tapestry – In a rare second “Q” episode in one season, Q returns when Picard is injured and his artificial heart is harm beyond repair. Q begins to gape the “tapestry” of Picard’s life. Q takes Picard all the map attend to when a Nausicaan ran him through with a sword, causing him to regain the artificial heart. Tapestry in my belief is probably the best Q/Picard episode of the series.
Birthright Parts I & II We are treated to an respectable episode as the Enterprise is docked at Deep Dwelling Nine and Worf is approached by a Yridian named Shrek who wishes to sell him some information about his father. Worf agrees to occupy the information as long as Shrek takes him to where his father is supposed to be alive. What followed was one of the best “Klingon” episodes ever done in Star Creep.
Lessons – For the first time in his career, Picard meets a fellow officer under his hiss who he becomes attracted to. This is a beautifully well written episode as we perceive Picard falling in savor with Commander Darren and then go through gut wrenching anxiety as he fears his orders may have caused her death.
The Jog – In another valid episode, we meet Professor Galen who was one of Picard’s professors at the Academy. He offers Picard the opportunity of a lifetime for an archaeologist by joining him for an extended period of time. Unfortunately he must refuse as he cannot leave the Enterprise. Not long after Professor Galen departs, he is killed and Picard embarks on a mission of the utmost importance to derive what Galen was looking for. They design an amazing discovery in the slay that falls on ruin. Of particular label is the “humanoid” at the extinguish of the exhibit played by Salome Jens whose later performances on DS9 as the leader of the Changelings are spectacular.
Rightful Heir – In another one of the most outstanding “Klingon” episodes, Worf seems to have lost his faith and requests leave to go to Boreth and stare Kahless, his people’s mythic spiritual leader. One can only imagine his surprise as while he’s seeking Kahless, Kahless appears before him in flesh and blood.
Timescape – This is one of the more appealing episodes as it begins with Picard, Troi, Data and LaForge returning from a conference in a runabout. While on near to the Enterprise’s set, they commence to experience some temporal pockets. They then ogle the Enterprise and a Romulan Warbird frozen in the middle of what “appears” to be a battle. {ssintrepid}

Season 6 of Star Stir the Next Generation has many middle of the road episodes with a few really strong thrillers and character episodes. Chain Of Teach (with the capable David Warner from “Broad” “The Omen” and other Star Spin episodes / films) deals with the buy and torture of Picard by the Cardassians while a modern captain takes explain of the Enterprise noteworthy to Riker’s distain. The other 2 parter, “Birthright” is a wasted opportunity to integrate with Deep State Nine. The 2 shows ran concurrently for 2 years yet once twice did they attempt to rotten over. We really wanted to spy a 3 or 4 parter with all the Next Gen / DS9 crews in the same anecdote. “Birthright” has the Enterprise docked at DS9 while Worf spends yet another episode dealing with his family and honour.
There are less of the ample episodes that we’ve been worn to from the 3rd to 5th seasons. Face of the Enemy, Starship Mine, Second Chances, The Creep and Timescape are all righteous if somewhat contrived. Descent features the return of the individual Borg faction led by Data’s brother Lore. It’s not strong enough as a Borg episode, the feeling of them being invincible has gone from “Q Who”. Every time Star Paddle faces a current, deadlier enemy, several episodes later they are made out to have human values after all – which isn’t the point.

Don’t let the name fool you–this is social commentary at its best and in my view, we need more of it. Its proper, we got to do better…

Movie Title: Fantasia Fantasia is available for streaming or downloading. |
Walt Disney’s 1942 FANTASIA was a groundbreaking film and remains a landmark to this day, a gleaming series of involving sequences status to vital concert music conducted by Leopold Stokowski of The Philadelphia Orchestra. The three disk FANTASIA ANTHOLOGY, however, is extremely overrated.
The first disk is the current FANTASIA, which Disney describes as restored. This is not strictly proper. First and foremost, the restoration of visual elements is sloppy at best, with the film plagued by streaks and blips, and at least one sequence (“Dance of the Hours”) appears to be slightly cropped. That aside, portions of the Deems Taylor narration have been completely lost, and these have been rerecorded by Tim Matheson–and Matheson’s state is not a wonderful match for Taylor and the sychronization is poorly done. Lastly, one selection (“Pastoral”) has been censored: a brief image, which would be considered racist by today’s standards, has been deleted from the sequence.
Even so, it is composed FANTASIA, and it overcomes all of these liabilities. The animation, which was created by hand and photographed through a number of laborious processes, shows Disney Studios at the height of its powers. Every one is distinct to have their favorites among the selections (mine are “Dance of the Hours” and “Night on Bald Mountain”), but every selection is brilliantly conceived and executed, and although the command varies from sequence to sequence the overall style of the film hangs together in a most mighty contrivance. FANTASIA was, is, and will no doubt will forever remain a touchstone in animation art.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Fantasia! Click Here
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the second disk, FANTASIA 2000. This particular film is extremely uneven, the sequences lack the same cohesive style that held the new FANTASIA together, and the entire film is beset by a series of often faulty “celebrity” introductions that give the film the feel of a made-for-TV variety reveal. Aloof, some of the visual ideas are very impressive, and while they are too few to offset the portions of the film that do not work, they serene obtain FANTASIA 2000 mildly curious.
Both the FANTASIA and FANTASIA 2000 disks include documentaries and commentary tracks on each film. The third disk, called “The Fantasia Legacy,” is a bonus packed with interviews, archieval footage, and sketches that exhibit how each sequence in both films was developed and then filmed. Some of this material is redundant, for it is included on the documentaries on the first two disks, but most of it is unusual to this disk alone. Disney originally saw FANTASIA as a film that could be re-released with a mix of mature and unique selections every few years, and the most intelligent material on the “Legacy” disk is a restored “Clair de Lune” (made for and then crop from the new FANTASIA) and various storyboard ideas for future sequences.
The only scheme one can find the “Legacy” disk is to rob this three disk package–and therein lies the rub. The fresh FANTASIA is shimmering, and even in its so-so status it is first-rate of a set in any DVD library. FANTASIA 2000, however, is trivial, occasionally titillating but not greatly memorable and not a allotment that one would normally go out of the plot to consume. And the mark for the three disk package is quite steep.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Fantasia! Click Here
If you are a Disney fan who must have every scrap of material available, I would recommend the investment this package requires. But if your notable interest is the modern FANTASIA, you are noteworthy better off simply purchasing a DVD of that film alone–the other two disks are simply not worth the expense. Purchasers should alos remember that the current FANTASIA does not often appeal to very young children, and if the win is being made for a child you are likely to be disappointed in their response. Final thought: the current FANTASIA is lustrous, FANTASIA 2000 is so-so, and the bonus disk is for hardcore fans. This pricey package is recommended to the latter only.
As a lifelong musician and artist, Fantasia has been one of my all time accepted movies since I first saw it in theaters as a child. My wife, bright my tall admire for this movie, bought the DVD version for me as a birthday gift. When I establish the DVD on, however, my angry anticipation rapidly turned to wretched disappointment.
I immediately realized that the yell of the narrator, Deems Taylor, whose fabulous and soothing reveal spans the entirety of the movie, had been overdubbed with someone else’s order! Deems Taylor was a widely known and respected music critic in his time. He had a dazzling, deep sonorous and expressive order. The sound of his converse was an valuable allotment of the aural and musical magic of this film. Yet, the recent owner’s of Disney saw fit to overdub his recount with that of some squawky and squeaky sounding unknown, thereby ruining the entire film.
I did some research to derive out why, in the name of “preservation”, Disney studios would extinguish this film in the plot that they have. The reason, supposedly, was because they found traditional footage (which was NOT in the version we all knew and loved as kids) which they wanted to insert – but the audio on that obscure footage had been damaged. They felt they had to redub those issue overs. Fair. But then, in the process, they re-dubbed the entire film, even the parts that had not been damaged!
I understand, for historical interest, that some people might be involved in seeing the extra, obscure footage which had been edited out long ago, but that extra footage easily could have been achieve on a special features disc, not in the exact movie that millions of fans have reach to know and savor. This was a ghastly decision by a studio which increasingly seems to have lost all sense of artistic taste and favorite sense. What a dark, dusky disappointment.
Soon, I’ll be buying a DVD recorder and I hope to sustain the novel VHS version I have in that draw.

I was not keen at first to watch this movie, but was suprised that it actually was resplendent comic. Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon play a couple of typical american couple that tries to veil their families from eachother…then the holidays hit. Not quite an “Musty School” or “Wedding Crashers”, but this should procure a few sterling chuckles for anybody.
Brad (Vaughn) and Kate (Witherspoon) are heading to Figi for Christmas so they do not have to exhaust time with their family. A dense fogbank grounds all flights out of San Francisco and destroys their plans. A local television record from the airport seals their fate, and soon they are off to peep their families – Brad’s divorced mom and dad and Kate’s divorced mom and dad. Brad’s dad (Duvall) and brothers (Favreau and McGraw) are hell on Brad, but Kate finds amusement in his discomfort. Kate’s mom (Steenburgen) is a bit of a cougar, making things melancholy for everyone. By the time they have survived Brad’s mom (Spacek), their relationship is hanging by a thread. Kate’s dad is not so dreadful, but by then it may objective be too gradual.

“Four Christmases” is a beautiful comical holiday film. Vaughn and Witherspoon are two likeable, comical leads. A star-studded supporting cast keeps the humor coming as well. The humor is of the squirmy, miserable kind. You feel abominable for these two as they are forced to deal with their families. This is an inviting film for fans of holiday movies. If you are in the mood for something Christmassy, check it out.

Movie Title: Adaptation Adaptation is available for streaming or downloading. |
Spike Jonze’s unusual movie, “Adaptation,” is a humorous and challenging survey at disquieted screenwriters, Hollywood hokum, and the lengths to which people will go to obtain what they want.
Nicholas Cage is terrific in a dual role. He is Charlie Kaufman, a real-life screenwriter who has been commissioned to write the movie script for Susan Orlean’s acclaimed current, “The Orchid Thief.” Unfortunately, Charlie has a monumental case of writer’s block. He is also an stunned, nerdy guy who has peril connecting with women and who is ashamed of his unkempt appearance. He is rotund and he wears a flannel shirt with the tails hanging out throughout powerful of the film. Cage also plays Charlie’s twin brother, Donald, who is confidently writing a screenplay of his enjoy. Donald’s screenplay is formulaic and derivative, but he manages to sell it for a bundle. In addition, Donald has no peril getting a handsome woman to be his girlfriend.
The conceit of “Adaptation” is that Charlie proceeds to write a screenplay about his inability to write a screenplay. There are hilarious vignettes with the unbelievable Meryl Streep, who plays the writer, Susan Orlean, as a repressed journalist who is dejected because of a lack of passion in her life. Chris Cooper almost steals the movie as the eponymous orchid thief, a toothless, lowdown individual who somehow connects with Orlean.

Jonze and Kaufman are making several statements here. They are saying that Hollywood is a position where desperate people will do anything to succeed, include writing formulaic potboilers. The arrangement to survive is to adapt, to become whatever the public wants at the moment. You need to “pick up with the program” in order to succeed in Hollywood and in life.
“Adaptation” is also a movie about passion, about loving what you do, loving someone else, and loving life itself. You need to retract risks, even if you wind up falling on your face, or else your life is meaningless.
“Adaptation” is confusing, exhilarating, beautifully acted, and one of the most engaging films that I have seen in a long time. Peruse it, and you will understand what all the fuss is about.
Nicolas Cage gives his edgiest performance in years, as Charlie Kaufman and twin brother Donald. Meryl Streep and Chris Cooper star as opposites-attract real-life characters, Susan Orlean (author of the Orchid Thief) and John LaRoche, horticulturist and the “orchid thief” himself. Brian Cox blusters brilliantly in a hilarious yet oddly touching ten microscopic supporting share as screenwriting guru Robert McKee. Adaptation is an adaptation of Orlean’s the Orchid Thief. But it is a legend of the difficult task of writing that screenplay. It is intentionally and whole-heartedly an exclusive and difficult movie to sum up with veteran logic. What is valid and what isn’t? What is based on life? What is based on the book? And finally is it all unbiased based simply on pure artistic chicanery?
Buy,Download, Or Stream Adaptation! Click Here
Don’t be fooled by the movie’s alleged esoterism. Director Spike Jonze and real-life screenwriter Charlie Kaufman serene understanding on telling a yarn that has universal appeal. Orlean’s The Orchid Thief dealt with disappointment and people’s perception of success and failure. In thematic response, the place of Charlie Kaufman’s struggle to adapt the Orchid Thief, whilst being surrounded by his infinitely more successful brother, Donald, revolves around disappointment too. These themes resonate with the viewer. We grow to equally identify with Donald’s good-natured ignorance as protoganist Charlie’s paranoid neurosis. If one thinks outside the box (which is an absolute requirement for watching this movie) is is apparent that Charlie and Donald recount different sides of the same person (the real-lifeKaufman) .
Charlie reminded me of the Adam Sandler character, Barry Egan in Paul Thomas Anderson’s vibrant and heavenly Punch-Drunk Like. Both are too disturbed of themselves to adore. Both are shimmering and decidedly kooky, and tumble in treasure with exotic British women. Comparisons of the films as wholes have been made, but Punch-Drunk Admire is decidedly more artsy and classical in sensibility…requiring patience to delight in its beauties. Adaptation for all its weirdness is more twisted on making the audience have a sterling time (but with brain and oddball sense of humor attached of course) .
An argument exists that this movie’s utterly unique and warped conclusion is a cop-out. Though i daren’t spoil the surprise of what happens, the concept that Jonze and Kaufman inform is one that requires deep consideration on the fragment of the film viewer. Is it a cop-out if there’s a reason late the cop-out? Afterall, we only know what we gaze. Can a movie rely on implications and come by away with it? These are questions Jonze and Kaufman invite the viewer to pore over. Adaptation is a thought-provoking but composed viscerally bewitching shot of pure cinema. Savor it, then believe about it afterwards.

Look up the word `cool’ in any dictionary and it says “peer Cowboy Bebop”…well, not really…but it should, because Cowboy Bebop is the quintessence of coolness. If you don’t already know, Bebop is a stylish 26-session masterpiece chronicling the thrilling triumphs and tribulations of those space-sailing, chain-smoking, bounty-hunting buddies, Jet Dusky and Spike Spiegel. Jet is a bald and paunchy bonsai tree collector with an artificial left arm and a comma-shaped part of metal under his scarred suitable survey. A broken-down ISSP officer–known on his home satellite, Ganymede, as the tenacious “Gloomy Dog”–Jet is now the owner/pilot/mechanic of the spaceship Bebop. The wiry gunfighter and martial arts master, Spike, has fuzzy green hair, mismatched eyes and a checkered past. These two bold spot “cowboys” hop from one astral gate to another to hunt down wanted criminals all across the galaxy, hoping to net enough woolongs to enable Jet to finally add some proper beef to his famed “Bell Peppers and Beef” stir-fry. In Session 2, Spike and Jet rescue a Welsh Corgi “data-dog” named Ein from the noted pet thief, Abdul Hakim. In Session 3, they meet up with an unscrupulous Blackjack dealer who turns out to be the outrageous yellow-clad femme fatale, Faye Valentine. And in Session 9, they meet an androgynous red-headed net-diver with an occasionally invisible nose who calls herself Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky, IV. Only by working together can this motley slight crew of hungry hunters overcome the ruthless gangsters, senile chess players, broken showers, biting mutants and dreadful mushrooms that stand in their intention as they attempt to nab the endless lineup of terrible guys profiled daily on Punch and Judy’s Sizable Shot television display.

Cowboy Bebop showcases phenomenal jazz music and exquisitely detailed animation that perfectly captures the mean streets and spaceways of a future world that’s simultaneously peculiar and familiar, with technology that’s grungy and realistic (like the hardware of the recent Star Wars trilogy) and a uniquely multi-cultural cornucopia of characters. Unlike most animes, Bebop is primarily episodic, so the shows can be enjoyed individually, without requiring the viewer to see the entire series in one sitting. My personal accepted is the suspense-filled scare spoof, “Toys In the Attic,” which opens with red-tinged video footage of a dingy tunnel, reminiscent of the long-forgotten Sega CD game, Sewer Shark.
The “Remix” of Cowboy Bebop allows you to hear the unforgettably exhilarating opening theme, Tank! (as well as the rest of the exquisitely-scored soundtrack), in speaker-rattling Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. This affordably-priced Anime Legends situation collects the entire Bebop series (not the movie) on six colorfully silk-screened DVDs. A plethora of special features are included, among them: three English-language trailers for Cowboy Bebop on DVD; four Cartoon Network promos; interviews with Wendee Lee, the protest of Faye Valentine and Cartoon Network producer, Sean Akins; subtitled commentary on Session 1 with the Japanese voices of Spike and Jet, Koichi Yamadera and Unshou Ishizuka; commentary on Session 5 and 10 with Wendee Lee and ADR producer, Yutaka Maseba; a laughter-filled commentary on Session 17 with director, Shinichiro Watanabe, and legendary composer, Yoko Kanno; Session 24 commentary with the Japanese Faye, Megumi Hayashibara, and the Japanese Ed, Aoi Tada; a behind-the-scenes contemplate at the making of Cowboy Bebop, called Session 0; plus a music video featuring the full-length version of Tank! Audio options consist of the aforementioned Dolby Digital 5.1 mix in both English and Japanese, as well as the new English and Japanese Stereo tracks. The ONLY downside to this release is that all six discs are awkwardly crowded into one plastic keepcase, each held in set with exiguous tabs that are easily broken. Shucks howdy, this is an anime collection that would even satisfy those crotchety faded geezers, Antonio, Carlos, and Jobim. So arrive out of your cryogenic sleep and order yours today! Highly recommended to all animation fans, cop prove fans, jazz enthusiasts and corgi owners. “Once the channel is dwelling, you will no longer be able to dash!”
Instead of giving some hack review of the myth, I’ll skip it and buy you either know the fable already or know how to google for it.

This box place of a solid anime is finally released in its newest manufacture (improved and cleaned-up narrate and 5.1 surround mix) at a very affordable ticket. Honestly, $40 is a catch considering what you had to pay for all of the discs individually. All 6 discs are in a clamshell case, similar to that of the Help to the Future. No insert inside, unbiased the DVDs.
What I believe of the improved picture:
It’s not awful. Not perfect but not dreadful. You’ll discover the characterize is cleaned up a lot if you compare it with pre-improved releases. Scenes that are brighter or more knowing really approach through. But I did spy something that kinda bothered me some. Scenes where there is a lot of shaded (which are many; the narrative is mostly in residence. who knew? ) seem off. What I mean by that is, the gloomy areas aren’t a consistent murky. This could be a result of the clean-up process but I’m not positive. Either procedure, it’s slightly distracting but by no means a deal breaker. (EDIT: This was an stammer I experienced on the first disc and not later ones; not distinct if it was with the disc or my TV’s brightness setting. Either map, not a huge predicament.) You’re getting a better copy of the present visually.
What I deem of the sound:
Ok, if you know anything about Bebop, it’s that there is a immense soundtrack. Hastily jazz with the opening credits and unlit blues penetrate this series. Needless to say, with a diverse procure like this one, the surround mix really pays off. Surround effects and bass response are wearisome on and not overwhelming. Scenes hold advantage of the surrounds to earn a balanced ambiance and you might even contemplate unhurried your shoulder at times. Don’t feel expressionless if you do; I did it too. Gunfights and action scenes hold salubrious advantage of the subwoofer. But nothing overwhelming, it’s well balanced and impartial gives that extra punch you’d inquire of.
So what should you do?
If you don’t have this series, this is probably the best offer you’re going to bag. If you laid down the money for each remastered disc, nothing is added for you whine wise, other than your enrage for Bandai not releasing this sooner.
A quality series with an upped characterize quality and surround mix, offered at a reasonable notice. Til next time Cowboy.

Movie Title: Lady Snowblood Lady Snowblood is available for streaming or downloading. |
LADY SNOWBLOOD (1973) is a starkly pleasing Japanese swordplay drama featuring a female fighter, Shurayuki Hime (Lady Snowblood), or Yuki for short, whose mission in life is to track down and demolish three of the four villains who brutalized her mother and killed the mother’s husband and son. It takes position in the 1890s, in Meiji-era Japan, and includes several pleasant flashbacks to provide the context for Yuki’s mission. Born in prison–her mother was there for killing the first of the villains and died after childbirth–Yuki is raised by a Buddhist reverend who calls her a “child of the netherworld” and trains her in the fighting arts. Titanic and regal, sparkling and ghostly white, Lady S (played by Meiko Kaji) looks too pure to sully herself with bloodletting, a tack which gives her the element of surprise in her many swordfights.
The film is divided into four chapters and is based on a manga written by Kazuo Koike, who also wrote the “Lone Wolf and Cub” and “Crying Freeman” manga series. At one point in Chapter Three, Yuki meets a writer (Toshio Kurosawa) who publishes a newspaper (“a cheap itsy-bitsy rag”) and tells Yuki’s yarn, accompanied by manga-like illustrations, making her a sage in her believe time and causing her noteworthy scare. There’s a bit of stylization in the fighting as Yuki leaps up impossible heights and causes blood to gush out like a fountain whenever she slices or dismembers an opponent, but otherwise the film has a spurious simplicity as Yuki moves like a wraith through minute villages and the attend alleys of Tokyo in her inexorable quest for vengeance. There is a lot of action and bloodshed, so fans of samurai and yakuza films should be cheerful. The tape is presented in a flawless letter-boxed transfer, in Japanese with English subtitles.
Meiko Kaji (who also starred in the FEMALE CONVICT SCORPION series) plays the title role and sings the theme song, “Flower of Carnage.” Quentin Tarantino drew on this film as piece of the inspiration for the Lucy Liu character, O-Ren Ishii, in Waste BILL VOL. 1 (2003) and also uses “Flower of Carnage” on his soundtrack. As impressive as Demolish BILL is, fans who want to experience the formal beauty of the recent form–seen here in a deftly-blended mix of samurai, ninja, yakuza, and manga motifs–need to go attend to films like this. And judging from current Japanese genre releases, e.g. RETURNER, ONMYOJI, and PRINCESS BLADE (itself a flashy contemporary reworking of LADY SNOWBOOD), to name a few, it’s determined that, aside from Waste BILL, “they objective don’t effect ‘em like that anymore.”
I’ll be unprejudiced, I rented this film strictly because I treasure Slay Bill and I was racy to glimpse where Tarantino culled his imagery and ideas. I’m very gratified I did, and it’s why I consider End Bill is a very vital bridge between recent cinema and cult and foreign film that, lets face it, most of us miss out on. This film is a very lovely and poetic examine at revenge and esteem. The title character, Yuki, is born into and raised with a single ideology, vengeance. She knows no like, except for that of her deceased parents and brother, nor abominate, except for her enemies who killed her father and brother and tortured her mother. The film follows Yuki on her scamper to earn and execute her vengeance on these four villains. Though the spot is fairly simple, it’s well crafted and manages to sidestep what could be easy static characterization for very well drawn character arcs. The action and swordplay are delicate and wonderfully over the top, as are the settings, yarn devices (like the spend of paintings and manga to depict flashback and spot explanation), and special FX (lots of arterial blood sprays.) For fans of Ruin Bill, this film is the basis for the O-Ren Ishii character. Other references are similar settings (the fight at the demolish of the House of Blue Leaves sequence), numbered chapters, music, the afore mentioned arterial blood sprays, very similar character development, freeze frames with character identification, a very similar rouges gallery upward camera shot, and a mixture of live action and animation/manga.

I unprejudiced finished watching the third season DVD status, and while Stargate Atlantis is serene my approved Sci-Fi prove, I was rather disapointed.

Here’s why.
(Warning! Spoilers below!)

First, narrative arc failure. I was expecting a expansive advancement in the myth arc concerning the Wraith, but it objective didn’t happen. Distinct, they appear in a few edifying episodes, but it didn’t seem like the myth with respect to them in particular moved at all.
Second, killing off Dr. Beckett. I really liked him. Maybe I’m dating myself a bit here, but he was kind of like Scotty and McCoy rolled together but with a cooler head. This very lovable character will be missed.
Third, rehashing the replicators. With an entirely unusual galaxy as our backdrop for this series, why do the replicator thing all over again? It was unique enough on Stargate SG-1, but I was amazed that Atlantis started a yarn arc with replicators too. Are they going creatively bankrupt already?
Fourth, rehashing extinct sci-fi standbys, like the “unusual alien thingy or disease that causes dependable comrades to open killing each other”. Did the modern Star Lunge do this in the episode “The Naked Time” and wasn’t it done again by Star Slither Next Generation as the second or third episode in that series?
Fifth, bringing wait on a whole ship plump of “ancients” unbiased to extinguish them all off by the kill of the two portion episode. So, the “ancients” have gone from being a gigantic and mysterious hurry of humanoids from the past to an expediant residence arrangement. We can perform them and kill them at will unprejudiced to salvage and episode or two. Couldn’t an “obsolete” or two have been spared and conventional as secondary characters? Wouldn’t that have been spellbinding? They could have helped survey the rest of the city. Their ship could have been recovered. There’s so powerful that could have been done with them that wasn’t.
Sixth, lack of character development. Tayla could be a full-fledged warrior princess with a rich heritage and tons of wisdom, but she seems microscopic more than a magnificent (to say the least) face with a spacious body who never uses contractions (reminds me of Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeanie) and tilts her head a lot. And then there’s Ronan the Monotone Macho man who does nothing for me but must appeal to a sure demographic so he’s peaceful there.
Still, the season ended with a special effects spectacular and a tightly written script that showed unbiased what the Atlantis team is kindly of. And, of course there’s the wealth of special features and commentaries that you gather as piece of the standard package with Stargate franchise DVD sets, and that greatly adds to the value of the region.
I haven’t seen any of season four. Here’s hoping.
For my money, the third season of Stargate Atlantis is the best thus far. All of the seasons have been somewhat hit-and-miss, in terms of episode quality, but I mediate season three brings a wealth of much-needed character development. We learn more about the mysterious Sheppard in “Phantoms” and the taciturn Ronon Dex in “Sateda,” while the episodes “McKay and Mrs. Miller” and “The Tao of Rodney” provide current dimensions to the bright and blustery Rodney McKay. McKay’s character arc alone — looking from his modern guest appearances years ago on SG-1 to the newest Atlantis offerings — is staggering, and David Hewlett greatly deserves the praise he’s received for his performance. Outside of something like Firefly, I deem it’s rare to inspect a explain in this genre gape so remarkable of the characters’ backstories, and it’s gratifying to inspect it finally happening for SGA.
Teyla is certainly underutilized, and I hope that this season will bring unique depths to her character. From what I’ve heard, there is definitely the opportunity for that to happen.

Movie Title: Kirikou and the Sorceress Kirikou and the Sorceress is available for streaming or downloading. |
This is a fabulous movie that follows the adventures of Kirikou, a precocious infant who saves his village, outwits his foes, and befriends all. Born into a village apparently cursed by the Sorceress Karaba, Kirikou sets out to undo her mischief and understand the reason for her noxious. Like Kate Dicamillo’s character Despereaux, Kirikou is a hero who belies his cramped stature, using it to his advantage with brash bravado. While many of the themes – overcoming obstacles, how propoganda can be venerable to oppress – are universal, there is a sure flavor of African yarn and folk-tale. That being said, I am not clear if this is an authentic folk-tale, or impartial a well-crafted imitation of one. Either plan, it is enjoyable.

In terms of the animation, dialog, and music, everything is favorable. There is a puny disparity between the english-language track and the english subtitles, though nothing distracting. One tag on the animation: this film is authentic to its plot in Africa. That is, young children are drawn nude, and women topless. Thus, this is an authentic depiction of people of a space – believe National Geographic, if you have no other reference. Thus, if natural, non-titillating depictions of semi-nudity execute you uneasy (particularly if watching with your children), then you might want to pre-view this one first. That being said, there is nothing sexy here – Sailor Moon is far more over the top.
In summary, I feel that this is an apt film and highly recommend viewing it.
This is a astonishing film, that can be enjoyed equally by parents and children. Kirikou is a shrimp and precocious boy who never lets prejudice find in the blueprint of his fierce determination to protect his people from an harmful sorceress. He is driven by curiosity and courage but also admits his believe feelings of vulnerability; he is a incredible example to children, a powerful more compelling hero than most of the whiny characters that dominate most Hollywood animation. Whether or not it is a stale folktale, it captures the feel of many of the African folk legends I have heard, and depicts a vibrant culture that is both suffused with ordinary magic and yet deeply human. The animation of this funny and touching film is both simple and savory, a perfect match for the narrative.

What is perhaps most spellbinding is that it is an example of the kind of chronicle so prevalent among folk legends that demonstrate how conventional societies are aware of the dangers of fixed traditions and launch to the possibility of unique ideas. There is a longstanding prejudice within cultures based on change and “progress” that primitive cultures are backwards and unable to accommodate appropriate change — in this yarn (and in fact in many ancient folk stories), this scrape is faced and dealt with from an internal standpoint — in other words, this anecdote is about how change can be accommodated within former societies and how such change can be encouraged by weak storytelling, and that such change does not require a rejection of tradition. Criticisms of dogmatism are embraced within this epic, that depicts many of the tribal people as resisting inquiry and assuming they already know what is best even when their musty methods of trying to defeat the enemy in battle are no longer working. The wise persons of this fable are the young Kirikou — too young to acquire he already knows how things work and how to solve problems, and young enough to ask questions and be willing to learn from one who will actually respond his questions rather than merely brush them aside — and his wise grandfather — who, it is primary, has left the village to live by himself on the mountain. It is also distinguished that the young Kirikou’s main quest is not to defeat the corrupt sorceress but to understand what has made her noxious. It is only by conception (and even empathizing with) the enemy that he can defeat her –an considerable lesson even for our gain disturbed times, plump of ignorance and of the arrogance that assumes war (and the resistance of change even where the plot quo is unsettling) is the only solution to incomprehensible threats. At its heart, this is a account about how the villagers learn to regain fresh wisdom, from the mouth of a child and of an elder who has gone beyond status-seeking pride.
